Superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo and his Argentine girlfriend, Georgina Rodríguez are officially engaged, with wedding plans now on the horizon after nearly a decade together.
With more than 68 million Instagram followers, the Buenos Aires born Georgina is an influencer, a model, a mother, a sister, and a successful businesswoman. A larger audience became acquainted with her after Netflix released a mini series that followed her life called ‘I am Georgina.’
Softfootball learned that Ronaldo first met Georgina in 2016 at a Gucci store while playing for Real Madrid in Spain and has been dating her since 2017. She described their first meeting as love at first sight, recalling how they reconnected days later at another event, leading to the start of their relationship.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, via his Facebook page, confirmed the news of Ronaldo’s engagement to the Argentine model. He shared a photo of their hands with a sparkling diamond ring and the caption reads:
“OFFICIAL: Cristiano Ronaldo proposed marriage to his love Georgina”
The announcement quickly trended worldwide, with searches for ‘Cristiano Ronaldo wife’ surging despite the couple not yet being married. The engagement is a milestone for the blended Ronaldo and Rodríguez family, which includes Cristiano Jr, twins Eva and Mateo, Alana Martina, and Bella Esmeralda.
The couple has not publicly shared how the children were involved in the proposal, but fans have speculated they may have been part of the celebration.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United star currently live in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh, where he plays for Al-Nassr. He joined the club in December 2022 for a reported annual salary of £177m ($238m).
Notably, Saudi Arabia’s strict laws prohibit unmarried couples from living together, but exceptions were made for the Portuguese superstar after his record-breaking move in 2022.
Ronaldo and Georgina made their first official public appearance at the Best FIFA Football Awards in Zurich in January 2017 and have been inseparable ever since.
