West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan has confirmed that Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi is fit and available for Saturday’s Championship clash against Oxford United.
Softfootball gathered that Ajayi has fully recovered from the disruption caused by Nigeria’s abandoned 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya, where the Super Eagles delegation was left stranded for several hours at Al Abraq Airport before the match was eventually called off.
Corberan admitted the situation was beyond the club’s control but revealed West Brom remained in constant communication with the Nigerian defender throughout the ordeal. He expressed confidence that the available recovery period would be enough to prepare Ajayi for this weekend’s fixture.

The Spanish tactician also explained that dealing with players returning from international duty is a normal part of football, stressing that clubs must always adapt to different circumstances. He added that although Ajayi did not feature for Nigeria, the defender had already been playing regularly for West Brom before the international break, meaning the unexpected rest should not negatively affect his condition.
Corberan believes Ajayi is in perfect shape and ready to make an impact as Albion aim for a positive result away from home.
