Ahead of today’s showdown between Chelsea and Arsenal on Sunday, 1st March 2026, Football analysts at Softfootball have observed that Chelsea’s position in the league table is more fragile than it appears.

Chelsea are currently on 45 points after Matchday 27. However, Brentford sit just two points behind on 43 points, having already played their Matchday 28 fixture. This means if the Blues slip up against Arsenal, Brentford could move into sixth place in the next round of matches.

While Chelsea may still be mathematically in the top-four conversation, the immediate threat is now behind them rather than above. A defeat would pile pressure on them to defend sixth position instead of pushing upward.

That is why manager Liam Rosenior cannot afford a loss today. A draw or a win would be the preferred outcome for the Blues as they attempt to stabilise their campaign.

For Arsenal, however, this is a must-win encounter as Manchester City secured a 1-0 victory over Leeds United, maintaining pressure in the title race. However, recent history in the Carabao Cup also favours Arsenal. They defeated Chelsea 3-2 in the first leg and 1-0 in the second leg, showing superiority in their recent meetings.

With title ambitions on one side and European qualification pressure on the other, today’s clash promises to be decisive for both teams.
