Chelsea Star Set for Shock Move to Premier League Rivals

Chelsea defender Axel Disasi is on the verge of leaving Stamford Bridge, with the French international agreeing to join Aston Villa on loan.

The 26-year-old, who arrived from Monaco in 2023 for £38.5m, has struggled for regular minutes under new manager Enzo Maresca, making just four league starts this season.

Despite a promising debut season under Mauricio Pochettino, where Disasi featured in over 40 games, the arrival of Maresca saw him relegated to Chelsea’s so-called “bomb squad,” alongside stars like Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell.

Though Chelsea were open to offers last summer, Disasi stayed, only to see his game time limited to cup competitions.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa has secured Disasi’s commitment, beating interest from Premier League and Serie A clubs. The two clubs are now finalizing loan terms, including salary arrangements.

Villa, currently three points behind Chelsea in the Premier League, are keen to bolster their squad as they push for a Champions League spot. Disasi would join Andres Garcia and Donyell Malen as Villa’s January signings.

Chelsea, meanwhile, continue to face challenges this season. Following a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City, manager Maresca reflected on missed opportunities, saying, “We started very well… If we had scored the second, the game could have been different for us.”

With the January window nearing its close, Disasi could be one of several Chelsea exits. Renato Veiga appears set to join Juventus, while Omari Kellyman is linked with a loan move. The Blues hope these changes can help turn their season around.
