Chelsea monitor Liam Delap amid transfer buzz

Liam Delap, the 21-year-old striker, has taken the Premier League by storm in his debut season at Ipswich Town.

After making a £20 million switch from Manchester City last summer, Delap has already racked up eight goals and two assists in 21 league appearances.

His remarkable form has caught the attention of major clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United, with speculation swirling about a potential summer transfer.

Shaun Wright-Phillips, a former England international and fellow Manchester City academy graduate, recently lauded Delap as the best young player in the league.

“Liam Delap has really stood out this season. For someone playing at a newly promoted club, he’s proven to be reliable and effective,” Wright-Phillips shared.

“He has all the qualities of a top striker—strong hold-up play, the ability to involve teammates, and a knack for scoring goals.”

Wright-Phillips also emphasized Delap’s potential, believing a move to a stronger team could elevate the striker’s performance even further.

“His experience at Ipswich has been invaluable. If he joins a bigger club, he’ll not only score more but become an even deadlier striker.”

Delap’s form hasn’t gone unnoticed by England selectors either. With England’s World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia approaching in March, there’s increasing talk of a potential senior call-up.

Wright-Phillips expressed confidence in Delap’s readiness to don the Three Lions jersey, though he acknowledged fierce competition among England’s forward options, including Dominic Solanke.

“If Delap gets called up, I wouldn’t argue. He’s shown he can compete at the Premier League level.”

Ipswich Town, battling to maintain their Premier League status, will heavily rely on Delap’s prowess as they prepare for a challenging trip to league leaders Liverpool this Saturday.

As the transfer window looms, the question remains: will Delap stay and build on his impressive start, or will he take the next big step in his career?
