Chelsea close in on £51m Jamie Gittens signing from Dortmund

Chelsea are on the verge of completing another summer signing, as Jamie Gittens edges closer to a move from Borussia Dortmund. The 22-year-old winger has made it clear he is “fully committed” to joining the Stamford Bridge side, despite reported interest from Bayern Munich.

Gittens had been targeted by Chelsea prior to the Club World Cup, but with both clubs involved in the tournament, a deal wasn’t finalized before the early window deadline. Now, talks have resumed, and The Athletic suggests an agreement is imminent, with the player having already agreed a seven-year deal.

Although Bayern have shown interest, Dortmund have denied any formal contact with the Bundesliga champions over Gittens. Sporting director Sebastian Kehl dismissed the speculation, stating, “There’s nothing to say on the subject at the moment.”

Chelsea previously submitted two unsuccessful bids but are now expected to meet Dortmund’s €60m (£51m) valuation. The Blues are determined to add wide reinforcements, especially with Jadon Sancho no longer an option and Mykhailo Mudryk potentially facing a doping ban.

Manager Enzo Maresca has limited choices on the flanks, with Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto currently the senior options, while youngster Tyrique George is being tested in the role. Gittens is expected to add dynamism, pace, and competition in the wide areas.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are also looking ahead, with Brazilian starlet Estevao Willian set to join after the Club World Cup. Lyon’s Malick Fofana has also held talks with the London club as part of their broader recruitment plan.

Gittens remains Chelsea’s priority, however, and has already turned down other suitors to push through the move. Dortmund’s stance may soften with a solid offer and the player’s firm desire to move to the Premier League.

With the season fast approaching, Chelsea want the transfer wrapped up quickly to allow the England U21 international time to integrate. If completed, this could be one of their most significant additions in the wide attacking department.
