Manchester United F.C. interim manager Michael Carrick has confirmed the club’s interest in signing a left winger in the 2026 summer transfer window, citing squad depth concerns despite having versatile attacking options.
In a report by Fabrizio Romano on his official X account, Carrick admitted it’s a point to consider as United continue reshaping their squad.
Romano reported:
Manchester United will be in the market for a left winger in the summer, Michael Carrick confirms. “It’s a point to consider, definitely”. “I think Matheus Cunha can play in that position. Amad can do it too. But adding a left winger is a possibility, yes”.
Softfootball undertands that since taking interim charge, Carrick has overseen a remarkable upturn in results, registering just one draw with the rest ending in victories. Beyond the numbers, he has instilled what many describe as a tougher, more resilient “monster mentality.”
United no longer rely solely on stylistic dominance but instead demonstrate a pragmatic edge to secure crucial points as they push to re-establish themselves among England’s elite.

The move in signing a left winger, aligns with the club’s evolving transfer strategy under INEOS ownership with a renewed focus on strengthening wide areas following inconsistent performances from Marcus Rashford and the departure of Jadon Sancho.
While new signing Matheus Cunha and winger Amad Diallo offer flexibility across the front line, Carrick appears keen on adding a natural left-sided option to balance the attack.
Elsewhere, Leonardo Jardim has agreed to become head coach of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo until June 2027, replacing Filipe Luís following contract disputes despite an 8–0 semi-final victory over Madureira Esporte Clube.
