There has been increasing discussion around calls to sack Liam Rosenior, but the key question remains, who would replace him? Softfootball questions the rationale behind the growing pressure on the Chelsea manager.

This situation mirrors the earlier dismissal of Enzo Maresca on 1 January 2026, a decision that some analysts still question, arguing that Chelsea’s performances at the time were not poor enough to justify such action.

Rosenior, who replaced Maresca, is still in the early stages of his tenure and should be given time. His challenges have been significant, and results alone do not fully reflect the broader context.

Chelsea’s heavy defeats to Paris Saint-Germain 5:2 in the first leg and 3:0 at home in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16, have intensified criticism. However, PSG are widely regarded as one of the strongest teams in Europe this season, with a squad depth that surpasses Chelsea’s.

In a direct comparison, PSG hold a clear advantage in quality and depth. Over multiple encounters, they would be expected to win the majority of matches against Chelsea.

As a result, judging Rosenior solely on these outcomes may not provide a fair assessment. The gap between the two squads remains significant, with only a few Chelsea players capable of competing for places within the PSG team.
