Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori has revealed his desire to remain fit and play regularly for the Gunners for the rest of the season.
The Italy international has struggled with injuries since arriving at the Premier League club but recently made headlines by scoring the winning goal in Arsenal’s victory over Wolves.
Calafiori admitted that he would have preferred to feature in more matches but believes some of his injury problems were beyond his control.
Of course, I would have liked to play every game, to be fit for all the games.
But, to be honest, most of the injuries that I had, I couldn’t control because I was hit on the knee. I just had to keep on going. I hope, and I think, I am going to be fit until the end of the season to help the team.
The defender also reflected on his winning goal against Wolves, describing the moment as emotional and important for both himself and the team.
Calafiori further explained that while left-back has been his natural position throughout his career, he is comfortable operating as a centre-back when required.
I think in this new era of football, the key is to be open and be able to play different positions. It’s a quality, I think.
