Barcelona are reportedly “in love” with Alexander Isak and have made him their top priority for the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old Newcastle striker has been in outstanding form, scoring 44 goals in 68 appearances over the past two seasons, and is now one of the most coveted forwards in Europe.
Isak’s future was the subject of intense speculation during the January transfer window, but Newcastle manager Eddie Howe insisted that the Swedish forward was not for sale, with reports suggesting a fee of over £150million would be required to lure him away from St James’ Park.
While Arsenal have shown long-standing interest in Isak, his high price tag made a move unrealistic during the winter window. Instead, they turned to Ollie Watkins but saw their bid for the Aston Villa forward swiftly rejected.
However, Arsenal could renew their interest at the end of the season, but they will face significant competition from Barcelona. According to El Chiringuito reporter Jose Alvarez, the Spanish giants have already contacted the Newcastle striker and are keen to make him their primary target.
“The club is planning for the summer… Several departures are possible, including players like Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, and Robert Lewandowski, who faces an uncertain future,” Alvarez explained. “Isak is someone the Barcelona hierarchy is infatuated with. Joan Laporta believes he would be the perfect addition to their squad.”
With Isak’s current value at €75 million (£62.5m), Barcelona have reportedly held initial talks with Newcastle, and the early signs suggest a positive outcome.
Paul Scholes, the Manchester United legend, has suggested that Isak should aim for a bigger club than Arsenal in his next move. Speaking on The Overlap, Scholes emphasized that the striker should set his sights on top clubs like Real Madrid or Liverpool, teams with better chances of winning league titles.
“Arsenal is a good option, but I think it would be a step down for Isak,” Scholes said. “Liverpool and Real Madrid offer him a much bigger platform, and he needs to think about taking the next step in his career.”
Despite his praise for Isak’s talent, Scholes noted that, given Manchester United’s current situation, a move to Old Trafford would be unlikely.
As the summer approaches, Isak’s future remains uncertain, with multiple top clubs battling for his signature.
