Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has explained why highly-rated youngster Ethan Nwaneri is still unable to use the club’s senior dressing room, despite becoming an increasingly important member of the first-team squad. The 17-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough campaign, earning regular opportunities under Arteta and impressing with his maturity whenever called upon.
His recent performances, including goals against Girona in the UEFA Champions League and Manchester City in the Premier League, have further highlighted his enormous potential.
Despite training and playing alongside Arsenal’s senior stars, Nwaneri must continue changing separately until he turns 18, as league rules prevent underage players from sharing the dressing room with adult teammates.
Arteta admitted the situation feels unusual considering the teenager’s growing influence within the squad but stressed that the club must follow safeguarding guidelines.
The Spaniard also praised Nwaneri’s close relationship with fellow academy graduate Myles Lewis-Skelly, believing their friendship has helped both youngsters adapt smoothly to life in senior football as Arsenal continue to benefit from their rapid development.
