Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed Gabriel Martinelli will undergo further assessment after picking up a suspected hamstring injury during the Gunners’ Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to Newcastle United.

Softfootball understands the Brazilian winger was forced off in the first half after appearing to feel discomfort while chasing the ball.

Martinelli’s withdrawal adds to Arsenal’s growing injury concerns, with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus already unavailable, leaving Arteta with limited attacking options for the crucial weeks ahead.

The Arsenal boss revealed that the winger immediately complained of discomfort and was unable to continue, prompting the medical team to substitute him before halftime. Arteta explained that the club would carry out an MRI scan to determine the extent of the injury before making any further decisions.

The setback comes at a difficult stage of the campaign after Arsenal failed to strengthen their attacking department during the January transfer window despite being linked with several forwards.

Newcastle eventually secured a 2-0 victory on the night to complete a 4-0 aggregate win and book their place in the Carabao Cup final, while Arsenal must now wait anxiously for Martinelli’s medical results.
