Arsenal’s interest in Chelsea winger Noni Madueke has sparked divided opinions, with critics warning the move could stir unwanted backlash due to recent transfers between the two London rivals. While Mikel Arteta’s side are known to be seeking reinforcements on the wings, some insiders believe Madueke is not the right fit.
The 23-year-old played a full role in Chelsea’s Conference League final win and ended the 2024–25 season with 11 goals and five assists in 44 appearances. His ability to operate on both flanks adds tactical value, but questions remain about his reliability. Despite his strong numbers in ball progression—ranking in the top 1% for progressive carries and 99th percentile for carries into the box—his form remains inconsistent.
Chelsea are reportedly open to parting ways with the former PSV star for around £50 million, and Arteta’s admiration for adaptable players has placed Madueke on the radar.

However, pundit Charles Watts believes the move could bring “immediate negative vibes,” especially given Arsenal’s history of buying from Chelsea. Past examples, like Kai Havertz, have shown that fans remain skeptical of players coming from Stamford Bridge, regardless of their on-pitch output.
Watts praised Madueke’s flair and ability to beat defenders but argued that the winger lacks the consistency needed to elevate Arsenal’s squad. He drew comparisons to Nico Williams and Morgan Rogers, both admired for their ball-carrying threat—something Arsenal lacks—but noted that Madueke’s form fluctuates too often.
With Leandro Trossard’s contract set to expire next summer and Martinelli linked with a move to Bayern Munich, Arsenal’s need for wide options is clear. Yet, despite Madueke’s technical strengths, the move is seen as risky—both financially and in terms of squad chemistry.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has expressed a desire to keep Madueke, but the Blues may be tempted to sell given the valuation and Arsenal’s need. Still, voices around the Emirates urge caution, suggesting Arsenal explore other options before committing to a player whose connection to Chelsea could cast a shadow before he even kicks a ball.
