Arsenal produced a ruthless display at the Emirates Stadium, sweeping aside Leeds United 5-0 on Saturday, August 23, 2025, to claim their seventh consecutive win in this fixture.
The result moved Mikel Arteta’s side to the top of the Premier League table with six points from two matches, though the night was not without concern as both Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka limped off injured.

Despite this setback, the team still savoured the victory, with Arsenal posting post-match reactions of the players and fans on their official X page.

The hosts carved out the first big opportunity when captain Ødegaard curled just wide, before new striker Viktor Gyökeres dragged a shot off target. Leeds had a rare chance of their own when Pascal Struijk’s header was tipped over by David Raya, but Arsenal soon seized control. From a Declan Rice corner, Jurriën Timber rose highest to nod into the far corner, continuing Arsenal’s remarkable set-piece record.

Just before half-time, Timber turned provider, feeding Saka, who rifled home on his weaker foot to double the advantage. Moments later, however, Ødegaard was forced off through injury, dampening the celebrations.
The second half began in explosive fashion as Riccardo Calafiori slid Gyökeres through on goal, and the Swedish forward clinically finished inside the near post for his first Arsenal strike. The joy was short-lived, though, with Saka soon leaving the field injured. Timber then added his second of the game, scrambling home from another corner to make it 4-0.

In stoppage time, Arsenal fans were treated to a glimpse of the future as 15-year-old academy star Max Dowman came off the bench for his competitive debut. He immediately made an impact, winning a penalty that Gyökeres calmly converted to round off the scoring and seal his brace.
Before kick-off, the club also announced the £60 million signing of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace, adding further depth to Arteta’s attacking options.
The emphatic win extended Arsenal’s record run of 43 consecutive unbeaten home league games against newly-promoted teams, while Leeds’ early-season momentum was halted in brutal fashion.
