Arsenal have had an opening offer rejected for Botafogo forward Igor Jesus, as Mikel Arteta continues his search for a new striker during the January transfer window.
Arteta remains keen to add competition for Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, though top targets such as Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko are considered more realistic summer pursuits.
Softfootball understands the Gunners are instead exploring cheaper stop-gap options, with Brazilian outlet RTI Esporte reporting Igor Jesus as a genuine target this month.
The 23-year-old joined Botafogo from Shabab Al-Ahli last summer and has impressed since, scoring eight goals and providing five assists in 31 appearances for the Brazilian club. Botafogo have rejected Arsenal’s opening approach, though the exact fee involved has not been disclosed publicly.
While a loan move has been ruled out by Botafogo, the club are reportedly open to a permanent sale for the right price. Jesus carries a €100million release clause, though reports suggest Arsenal could complete a deal for closer to €20million this month.
