Arsenal secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Chelsea, continuing their dominance in this season’s meetings. Chelsea came into the match with high spirits, determined to prove they could dent Arsenal’s 2025/26 Premier League title charge.

However, history repeated itself as the Blues had already lost 3-2 in the first leg and 1-0 in the second leg of their Carabao Cup encounters against Arsenal, and their losing streak continued.

This fixture, alongside Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur, was seen by many fans as an opportunity for the Gunners to drop points. But despite not producing their best football, Arsenal got the most important thing at this stage of the season, three points.

Manchester City had also ground out a narrow win recently, showing that title races are about results, not always performances.

One major talking point was Chelsea being reduced to 10 men after Pedro Neto received a second yellow card in the 70th minute. Surprisingly, instead of taking control, Arsenal appeared tense and allowed the 10-man Chelsea side to push forward and apply pressure in the closing stages. Had Chelsea remained with eleven players, there is a strong argument they might have found an equaliser.

Softfootball observed visible tension among Arsenal players and even within the stadium atmosphere. Similar fear was evident in their recent 2-2 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers, where anxiety appeared to cost them control of the game.

Nevertheless, the result stands. Arsenal now hold a five-point lead over Manchester City, having played 29 matches compared to City’s 28. In a title race defined by pressure, Arsenal showed resilience even if not complete composure.
