Arsenal have officially announced the resignation of Edu Gaspar from his role as Sporting Director, bringing an end to a successful second spell at the North London club, softfootball reports.
The Premier League club confirmed the development in a statement released on Monday, thanking the former Brazilian international for his significant contribution to the club’s progress in recent years.
Edu returned to Arsenal as Technical Director in July 2019 before earning promotion to Sporting Director in November 2022. During his tenure, he oversaw the club’s men’s, women’s, and academy football operations, playing a key role in Arsenal’s long-term football strategy and squad development.
Reflecting on his departure, Edu described the decision as one of the most difficult of his career.
“Arsenal has given me the opportunity to work with so many amazing people and the chance to be part of something so special in the club’s history,” he said.
“It has been a special journey, and I thank Stan, Josh, Tim and Lord Harris for the support they have given me. I’ve loved working with so many great colleagues across our men’s, women’s and academy teams, especially Mikel, who has become a great friend.”
Edu added that he is now ready to pursue a new challenge but emphasized that Arsenal will always hold a special place in his heart, wishing the club and its supporters continued success.
Arsenal co-chair Josh Kroenke also paid tribute to the departing executive, praising his dedication and influence.
“We respect Edu’s decision and thank him for his immense contribution and commitment to moving the club forward. Everyone at Arsenal wishes him the very best,” Kroenke said.
He added that while change is a natural part of football, the club remains committed to its long-term strategy and ambition of winning major trophies. Arsenal also confirmed that plans are already in place to appoint a successor as they continue building for future success.
