Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has openly criticised the officiating following his side’s dramatic 2–1 Premier League defeat to Manchester City at Anfield, Softfootball reports.

In a clip shared by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on his official X handle, Slot highlighted what he described as a clear shirt-pull by City defender Marc Guéhi on Mohamed Salah, insisting the incident denied Liverpool a clear goal-scoring opportunity and should have resulted in a red card.

He also expressed frustration over what he sees as inconsistency in refereeing standards. He referenced the rulebook and previous incidents involving Erling Haaland, arguing that similar situations have been judged more harshly in the past.

Slot said:

“I can live with the fact, although I don’t like it, that the referee follows the rule book,”

This remark has further fueled debates around VAR fairness in high-stakes Premier League matches. Supporters have voiced concerns over perceived bias towards Manchester City, while rival fans mocked Slot’s complaints online.

This followed City’s late comeback victory, which still leaves Pep Guardiola’s side six points behind league leaders Arsenal. Although Liverpool looked set to control the game, City showed resilience and composure to fight their way back into the match.
