Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu both featured for Southampton as the Saints suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final at St. Mary’s.
Softfootball reports Liverpool made a strong start and took the lead in the 24th minute through Darwin Nunez, who finished confidently after the visitors carved open Southampton’s defence.

Harvey Elliott doubled Liverpool’s advantage eight minutes later, putting the Reds firmly in control before the halftime whistle. Southampton struggled to create clear-cut chances during the opening period but returned with greater urgency after the break.
The hosts pulled a goal back in the 59th minute when Cameron Archer found the net to set up an exciting finish. Manager Russell Martin introduced Paul Onuachu in the 73rd minute to add attacking presence, while Joe Aribo continued to dictate play in midfield before being substituted six minutes from time.

Despite mounting late pressure, Southampton were unable to find an equaliser as Liverpool held on to book their place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, leaving the Saints to focus on improving their difficult domestic campaign.
