Andrea Pirlo is set to become the new head coach of the Italy national team after accepting the Italian Football Federation’s verbal proposal.
The World Cup-winning former midfielder has given the green light to the long-term project presented by Paolo Maldini and Leonardo and is now expected to complete the formalities in the coming days.
Only the final administrative steps remain before Pirlo officially signs his contract and begins a new era with the Azzurri.
Softfootball previously reported that Pep Guardiola had turned down the opportunity to take charge of Italy after deciding to step away from coaching to spend time with his family and recharge before accepting a new project in the future.
While Guardiola’s salary was initially viewed as a major challenge, the federation believed his experience, tactical brilliance and winning pedigree justified the investment.
Following Guardiola’s decision, the Italian federation accelerated talks with Pirlo, who has now accepted the role and is poised to lead Italy into the next chapter of its international journey.
