Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has thrown his support behind Kylian Mbappe after the France international missed a penalty during his side’s 2-0 Champions League defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Ancelotti addressed the missed spot-kick directly in his post-match comments, insisting the club remains fully behind the striker despite a difficult night in England, Softfootball understand.

Speaking after the game, Ancelotti said:

Mbappe has all of our support and he will soon turn the situation around. Mbappe is an extraordinary player, we must be patient. He’s doing well and adapting well. We are with him.

Mbappe’s penalty came after Andy Robertson was adjudged to have tripped Lucas Vazquez, but Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher read his intentions and dived to his left to keep the effort out.

Second-half goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo ultimately secured the win for Arne Slot’s side, with Mac Allister opening the scoring after a neat one-two before Gakpo doubled the lead from a Robertson cross
