Amorim praises Casemiro for Man United’s Europa League win

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has heaped praise on Casemiro following the Brazilian’s impressive display in the 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad in the Europa League last-16 second leg.

Casemiro initially struggled to fit into Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, with the Portuguese coach admitting earlier this year that the experienced midfielder lacked the right “characteristics” for his tactical approach. However, with United facing an injury crisis in midfield, Casemiro has stepped up and delivered standout performances.

“I think I’m also learning how to use players like Casemiro,” Amorim told TNT Sports. “Without many options, we are putting our players in the best positions, and that helps us a lot. Casemiro gave us calmness and control, especially in the build-up phase, which allowed Bruno [Fernandes] to push higher up the pitch and be more dangerous.”

The 33-year-old’s struggles came when exposed in a more dynamic 3-4-3 formation, but he has excelled in a deeper role, operating within a low block. Amorim acknowledged that Casemiro’s experience and composure have been crucial in recent games, particularly in breaking up play and initiating attacks.

Amorim also highlighted Alejandro Garnacho’s impact on the right flank, which allowed United to maintain width and create space for Casemiro and Fernandes to dictate the tempo in midfield.

“Casemiro brings calmness and stability. Sometimes, when he wasn’t playing regularly, his pace was lacking, like against Newcastle. But now, he’s helping us control games and giving us balance,” Amorim added.

Despite ongoing speculation about his future, Casemiro remains committed to United, with his contract running until June 2026. With Manuel Ugarte back on the bench and Toby Collyer returning from injury, Amorim faces a tough decision on whether to start Casemiro in Sunday’s Premier League clash against Leicester City.

For now, Casemiro’s resurgence has given Manchester United a much-needed boost as they aim to finish the season strongly and challenge for silverware.
