Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has expressed optimism over Victor Boniface’s recovery, revealing that the Nigerian striker is making encouraging progress after suffering a thigh injury.
Softfootball understands that Boniface picked up the injury while representing Nigeria during a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda last month, forcing him to miss a crucial period for both club and country.
The Super Eagles forward is not expected to feature again before the end of the year as he continues his rehabilitation.
Despite the setback, Alonso remains confident that the 23-year-old is recovering well and is moving in the right direction.
Speaking about Boniface’s condition, the Leverkusen boss said the striker is making steady progress, although it is still too early to determine an exact return date.
The Spanish coach added that the club remains hopeful the Nigerian international will be back in action as soon as he is fully fit.
Boniface has been a key player for Bayer Leverkusen since arriving from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise, playing an important role in the club’s domestic success and impressive performances in Europe.
