Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has expressed his unwavering belief in Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface, despite last week’s transfer speculation linking him to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.
Boniface, making his first start since recovering from injury, found the net in Leverkusen’s 3-1 Bundesliga victory over Hoffenheim. Alonso emphasized the importance of the moment for the Nigerian forward.
“I always have trust. It was an important moment for him after his injury. The situation last week was a bit strange, unpleasant,” Alonso admitted. “It was important that he felt important again, felt the love of the fans. That’s important for the mind.”
Boniface’s return to form is a huge boost for Leverkusen as they continue their impressive Bundesliga campaign under Alonso.
