Ajax are closing in on the signing of Brazilian forward Marcos Leonardo after reaching the “here we go” stage of negotiations with Al-Hilal.
Verbal agreements have now been reached between all parties, with Ajax agreeing a €25 million transfer fee with the Saudi Pro League club while also finalising personal terms with the 23-year-old striker. Marcos Leonardo has already completed the necessary medical checks, leaving lawyers to conclude the final paperwork before the move is officially announced.
The breakthrough comes just hours after Softfootball reported that Ajax had opened talks over a move for the Brazilian as part of the club’s efforts to strengthen its attacking options ahead of the new season.

Leonardo is set to return to European football after spending two seasons with Al-Hilal, whom he joined from Benfica in 2024 in a deal worth €40 million. During his time in Saudi Arabia, the striker established himself as one of the club’s most reliable goalscorers, registering an impressive 48 goals in 82 appearances across all competitions.
Ajax believe Leonardo’s finishing ability, movement inside the penalty area, and experience at the highest level will significantly strengthen their attack as they prepare for domestic and European competition.
With the transfer now in its final stages, the Dutch giants are expected to confirm the signing once the remaining legal documents are completed, securing one of their marquee additions of the summer transfer window.
