Liverpool manager Arne Slot has expressed his delight after the Reds secured the signing of highly rated defender Jeremy Jacquet, who will officially join the club in the summer from Rennes in a blockbuster deal worth around €60 million.
The 20-year-old is regarded as one of Europe’s brightest young defensive talents, and Liverpool moved quickly to secure his services as part of their long-term squad planning.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference via the club’s official X handle, Slot praised both the player and the club’s recruitment strategy.
Very pleasing of course because he’s a very big talent and maybe even more than only a talent but we speak cause of his age. We weren’t the only ones interested in him so a big compliment to those who are signing the players. Another example of the model we use at this club: young, talented at the start of their careers, and can improve and help us for short and definitely long term. We have signed a lot of those recently and the mid to long-term future is in a very good place.

Softfootball understands Liverpool won the race for Jacquet’s signature despite strong interest from several top European clubs. Chelsea were previously reported to have agreed personal terms with the young defender before Liverpool made a decisive late move to hijack the deal.

Jacquet has now signed a five-year contract with the Reds, which will officially begin when he arrives at Anfield in the summer, as Liverpool continue building a young, talented squad for both immediate success and long-term dominance.
