The recognition comes amid renewed debate in the title race after former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor suggested Manchester City are favourites to win the league based on their remaining fixtures compared to Arsenal. His comments sparked criticism from sections of the Arsenal fanbase, who argued that current form and squad dynamics must also be considered in assessing the run-in.

Gyökeres becomes the fourth Arsenal player to win the weekly accolade this season, following Leandro Trossard and Declan Rice earlier in the campaign.

Elsewhere in European football, UEFA have rejected SL Benfica’s appeal to lift the provisional suspension imposed on Gianluca Prestianni ahead of their Champions League second leg against Real Madrid CF.
