Softfootball gathered, their first AFCON title came in the 2021 edition, although the final was played on 6 February 2022 due to scheduling changes. Senegal defeated Egypt 4–2 on penalties after a goalless draw at the Olembe Stadium in Yaoundé, Cameroon, with Sadio Mané playing a pivotal role in the historic victory.

The AFCON 2025 final, played on Sunday 18 January 2026, added another dramatic chapter to Senegal’s history. The match was briefly overshadowed by controversy after a disputed penalty decision sparked protests and brought Senegal close to boycotting the game. Captain Sadio Mané intervened, calling his teammates back from the dressing room to ensure the match continued.

With two AFCON titles and one runners-up finish, Senegal have firmly established themselves as one of Africa’s modern football powerhouses.
