Chelsea have officially parted ways with head coach Enzo Maresca on Thursday, January 1, 2026, following a 2–2 draw against Bournemouth on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. While the decision was somewhat anticipated, the timing came as a New Year shock to many Chelsea supporters.
Maresca’s dismissal is surprising considering his recent achievements. He led Chelsea to the 2025 UEFA Conference League title and guided the Blues to FIFA Club World Cup glory, defeating Super Cup winners Paris Saint-Germain.

Following his exit, Softfootball has gathered a list of possible candidates who could replace the Italian tactician at Stamford Bridge.
Cesc Fàbregas

The former Chelsea midfielder is currently head coach of Serie A side Como 1907. Appointed officially in July 2024 after successful assistant and caretaker spells, Fàbregas led Como to promotion and a solid start in the Italian top flight. His Chelsea connection and growing reputation make him a strong contender.
Frank Lampard

Lampard is no stranger to Chelsea, having previously managed the club twice. As of December 2025, he is in charge of Coventry City, where he has revitalized his managerial career, pushing the club to the top end of the Championship and into playoff contention. His familiarity with the club could see him considered again, possibly in an interim role.
Thomas Tuchel

A surprise but notable name, Tuchel was sacked shortly after Todd Boehly took over Chelsea. The German coach previously won the UEFA Champions League with the Blues and had begun building a competitive, structured team. Currently managing England and already qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a return would be dramatic but intriguing.
Oliver Glasner

The Austrian tactician is presently manager of Crystal Palace. Though not the most popular name among fans, Glasner has Premier League experience and a strong tactical profile. Chelsea’s past appointment of Maresca from Leicester City shows the club is not afraid to take calculated risks.
Softfootball will continue to monitor developments closely. Once a replacement is officially confirmed, we will bring fans immediate updates as Chelsea prepare for the next chapter of their managerial journey.
