Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeneß has claimed that Liverpool manager, Arne Slot lied to German midfielder, Florian Wirtz before he signed for the Reds, Softfootball reports.

The former Bayer Leverkusen star was in action at the weekend as Liverpool beat West Ham United 2-0 but he has not been playing regularly like he did in Germany especially when he was at the heart of midfield during the title winning unbeaten season in the Bundesliga.

In an interview shared by football expert, Fabrizio Romano on his official X handle, Uli Hoeneß was of the opinion that Liverpool was a wrong choice for the German international. The post read:

Bayern honorary president Hoeneß: Slot promised Wirtz something that he’s now clearly not keeping: build new team around him with no10 shirt. That was rubbish. He got the number 7 shirt, and the new team is clearly not playing around Florian Wirtz, told SID.

Interestingly, Liverpool Coach, Arne Slot recently defended Wirtz’s form in the premier league but Bayern Munich’s honorary president Hoeneß claims he feels sorry for the player as he is not fulfilling his potential. He said:

I feel terribly sorry for Florian Wirtz. Everything went through him in Leverkusen. In Liverpool, he gets five passes in a half – and if he loses the ball twice, he gets a bad rating.

Florian Wirtz joined Liverpool in the summer for a club and British record fee of around £100 million, a season after the Reds won the premier league and they were looking to build a strong defence of their title but are currently placed eighth with 21 points after 13 matches.
