Newcastle United new signing, Yoane Wissa has returned from injury to training but he is not ready to face Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday, according to manager Eddie Howe, Softfootball reveals.

The former Brentford striker has not played a match for the Magpies since he signed in the summer due to injury. However, the team has been progressing fine. Newcastle beat Everton 4-1 just last weekend and filled with confidence hosting Spurs on Tuesday night.

Speaking ahead of the game via Newcastle United’s official X handle. Eddie Howe also spoke about other injured stars like Sven Botman and Nick Pope. He said:

With Sven he’s going to see a specialist in the next couple of days to get a definitive opinion on whether he needs an injection or whether he’s able to rest for a few days and resume training. Yoane participated in an 11v11 training game while we were at Everton. He’ll have another one at some stage this week and we’ll see how close he is. No further update from Saturday. He’s one of a number of players we’ll analyse early this week and try to get a proper diagnosis.

Head-To-Head

Newcastle and Tottenham have played themselves 173 times with Spurs having the upper hand with 74 wins and the Magpies 65 victories while 34 have ended in draws.

Star Player

Nick Woltemade has hit the ground running since he joined Newcastle this summer and scored in their last match against Everton. He will look to capitalise on Tottenham’s recent poor form to cause damage.

Mohammed Kudus is the key man for Tottenham Hotspur but it will be tough against a very motivated Newcastle that has confidence and playing some of the best football in the premier league.

Team News

Nick Pope remains out alongside ex-Spurs full-back Kieran Trippier (hamstring), Yoane Wissa is back from his knee injury but the match comes too soon for him, Harrison Ashby (thigh) and Will Osula (ankle) on the hosts’ injury list, while Sven Botman has been managing a back problem and will see a specialist soon.

However, there could be a starting spot for one of Eddie Howe’s favourites, 19-year-old Lewis Miley alongside Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon while Anthony Elanga and Harvey Barnes return to the bench.

For Tottenham, Cristian Romero returns following his yellow-card suspension and will replace Kevin Danso in the backline. But Spurs are still without James Maddison (ACL), Radu Dragusin (fitness), Kota Takai (thigh), Yves Bissouma (ankle), Dejan Kulusevski (knee) and Dominic Solanke (ankle). Brazilian forward Richarlison, Archie Gray, Joao Palhinha and Destiny Udogie.
