Aston Villa kept their momentum rolling with a narrow 1–0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, securing a fifth straight victory in all competitions. Fresh from their 2–1 Europa League win over Young Boys, Unai Emery’s men did just enough at Villa Park, while Wolves misery deepened as they stretched their winless Premier League run to 17 matches, remaining bottom of the table, Softfootball reports.
With five of Wolves seven league goals this season coming before the break, an early spark felt crucial if Rob Edwards’ side still chasing his first Premier League points since taking charge earlier this month were going to pull off something big. And despite an early scare when Lucas Digne’s deflected free-kick clipped the bar, Wolves surprisingly looked the more dangerous team in a cagey first half.

Jørgen Strand Larsen thought he had given the visitors the lead after guiding home Jackson Tchatchoua’s cutback, but the flag went up with Jhon Arias ruled to be interfering with Emi Martínez. That set the tone for the opening period: Wolves pushing, Villa flat, and Martínez standing tall.
Right on the stroke of half-time, the Argentine goalkeeper produced two huge saves first denying Strand Larsen, then pulling off a stunning fingertip stop to push Yerson Mosquera’s thumping header onto the bar. Villa Park felt tense, and the home side’s sluggish tempo wasn’t helping.
After the restart, Wolves nearly punished Villa again, but Pau Torres perfectly timed sliding challenge kept Strand Larsen from a simple tap-in. It felt like Villa needed something special to wake themselves up and they got it.

Boubacar Kamara stepped up with a brilliant strike from the edge of the box, rifling the ball into the top corner to finally break Wolves’ resistance. The visitors were frustrated, especially with João Gomes off the pitch receiving treatment when the goal went in.
From there, Villa pushed to kill the game off, with John McGinn and Donyell Malen both going close. Wolves, however, looked drained after falling behind. Their belief evaporated, and they eventually slumped to their sixth away defeat of the season, all without scoring.
After the game ended, Aston Villa via its official X handle, appreciated Emi Martinez for the fantastic performance, making 4 Crucial saves and a clean-sheet to deny Wolves from picking up any point. They posted:

The picture remains bleak, nine points from safety, no signs of a turnaround, and a new manager still searching for his first Premier League point. The weekend’s results elsewhere offered minor comfort none of the teams directly above Wolves won but the gap is growing harder to ignore.
Villa, meanwhile, climb into the top three at least for now and continue to look like a side with genuine ambition, especially at home, where they’ve now won eight straight matches.
