Atletico Madrid Aim to Protect Home Record Against Inter Milan

3 Min Read

Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan meet again this Wednesday evening, and although both teams look strong on paper for different reasons, neither one will walk into this thinking it’ll be simple. Atletico have the perfect home record, and Inter have perfect points in the group.

Softfootball understands that Atletico’s Champions League run has been a bit unpredictable. They’re sitting on six points halfway through, but the road there hasn’t been smooth at all. Two tough defeats in England, first a narrow 3–2 loss at Liverpool and then that rough 4–0 defeat against Arsenal, put them on the back foot.

But then they flip around and follow it up with a strong 3–1 win over Union Saint-Gilloise. It’s been up, down, then up again.

If there’s one thing they can lean on, though, it’s that incredible home form. Atletico have lost only once in their last 16 Champions League home games, and they’ve won 10 of the last 11.

Inter, meanwhile, come in with their own story. They’re one of the most consistent squads in Europe. Runners-up last season, Inter have won 10 of their last 11 league-phase games.

They’ve scored at least two goals in every match so far and remain one of only three clubs alongside Bayern and Arsenal with 100 per cent records after four matchdays.

Inter Milan posted photos of their players preparing for the game via their official X account.

Team News

Robin Le Normand is still out with knee damage, and Marcos Llorente might miss the match too, which is a blow since he’s already got three goals in this phase. Jan Oblak is a doubt as well, meaning Juan Musso could start after keeping a clean sheet against Getafe. Antoine Griezmann was rested at the weekend and should be ready, pushing to partner Julian Alvarez.

Lautaro Martinez is set to make his 50th Champions League start. Inter may again be without Denzel Dumfries, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Matteo Darmian. In midfield, Petar Sucic and Piotr Zielinski are battling for one spot, and Carlos Augusto might have to play on the right if the injury list doesn’t clear. Marcus Thuram and Ange-Yoan Bonny are the main options to partner Lautaro.

Possible Lineups

Atletico Madrid:
Musso; Molina, Gimenez, Hancko, Ruggeri; Simeone, Barrios, Koke, Gonzalez; Griezmann, Alvarez

Inter Milan:
Sommer; Akanji, Bisseck, Bastoni; Augusto, Barella, Calhanoglu, Zielinski, Dimarco; Martinez, Thuram

Softfootball’s Prediction

Both teams have something strong going for them, and neither looks ready to hand over an easy win. Atletico’s home form might just balance Inter’s perfect group streak.

Prediction: Atletico Madrid 2–2 Inter Milan
