Messi, who recently signed a contract extension as reported by Softfootball, drew comparisons between this year and last season’s disappointments reminding everyone that playoffs demand a different kind of focus.

Messi said:

Last year we finished first in the regular season and then got knocked out in the first match, Playoffs are a different competition. Teams become more careful, and you have to be alert to every small detail.

He also pointed out Miami’s ongoing defensive struggles, admitting that they can do better defensively as a team; however, just fresh off his brace in the 3-1 win over Nashville, Messi remains upbeat despite the team’s inconsistencies.

He revealed:

We’ve been very irregular, especially in defence. We want to compete and be the champions of this MLS. It’s been a good season. We still have a chance to finish strong and win the MLS.

As the playoffs loom, Messi’s message feels less like an interview and more like a rallying cry a reminder that while the road hasn’t been perfect, the dream is still alive for Inter Miami.
