Rodrigo Bentancur Commits Future to Tottenham with New Long-Term Contract

3 Min Read

At last, the rumours are over. Tottenham have confirmed that Rodrigo Bentancur has signed a fresh long-term contract with the club. The news dropped on Friday, October 3, 2025, and it means the Uruguayan midfielder will be sticking around far longer than his old deal, which had been due to run out in June 2026. Spurs didn’t want to take chances, so they tied him down early.

Since arriving from Juventus back in January 2022, Bentancur has turned into a real heartbeat of the midfield. He’s pulled on the shirt 122 times, scoring nine goals, but numbers don’t really tell the story. His control, the way he knits things together, and of course his big role in last season’s Europa League triumph… all of that explains why Tottenham were desperate to keep him.

This season alone, he’s already featured nine times, and he looks comfortable in Thomas Frank’s new set-up. Even though it was disallowed due to a foul in the build-up, he found the back of the net in Tottenham’s 2-2 draw against Bodø/Glimt as reported by Softfootball.

Bentancur himself sounded pretty cheerful about it. He said:

I feel really good and very happy to continue my story with this fantastic club. My family is happy here, my teammates are amazing, and winning the Europa League was special. But, honestly, we want more trophies.

Thomas Frank, never shy of praising the players who buy into his vision, called Bentancur:

A glue in the team, someone who dictates games, creates chances, and pops up with goals.

He added that tying him down is a clear message of ambition, alongside the recent extension of Djed Spence, as reported by Softfootball.

It hasn’t all been smooth for the 28-year-old. In early 2023 he tore his ACL, which kept him out for months. Then came an ankle issue not long after. Many players would have struggled, but Bentancur came back strong, captaining the side in early 2024 and even scoring on his comeback against Manchester United.

Here is a confirmation video posted on Tottenham’s official X account:

On the bigger stage, Bentancur has already won 72 caps for Uruguay and played in two World Cups. Add to that his spells at Boca Juniors and Juventus, and you get one of the most experienced midfielders Tottenham could possibly have.

This isn’t just another contract extension. For Spurs, it’s a commitment to stability, leadership, and keeping the fire alive in a squad that is chasing silverware.
