Gabriel scored a dramatic late goal to help Arsenal secure a comeback 2-1 victory over Newcastle United at Saint James’ Park on Sunday evening, Softfootball reports.
The Gunners drew 1-1 against Manchester City last weekend and were desperate to record a win to close the gap on league leaders Liverpool while Newcastle United looked to continue their healthy home form against the Gunners.

New signing Nick Woltemade gave the Magpies the lead in the first when he rose above Gabriel to connect with Sandro Tonali’swell delivered cross and power a header past Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya to send the home fans into wide frenzy.
The game was feisty as both sides look to get the upper hand in a game that could shape their season. Both sides were aggressive and had a very high pressing tactics whenever the opponent is in possession of the ball.

It continued into the second half and with spaces getting tighter, Mikel Arteta introduced Captain Martin Odegaard to help with the creativity and also introduced Gabriel Martinelli as they pushed for goals.
Arsenal thought they were unfairly denied a penalty when Viktor Gyokeres appeared to be brought down by Nick Pope but after VAR checked and sent the referee to the monitor, he eventually ruled it out and restarted play with Newcastle.
Arsenal eventually got themselves into the match as Declan Rice’s perfect cross was met with a delicate Merino header and it went past the outstanding Pope into the net. At the other end, Newcastle thought they had a penalty when Elanga’s ball touched Gabriel’s hand inside the six-yard box but VAR ruled it out as the ball touched the Arsenal’s defenders leg before rebounding off his hand in close proximity.
