Bayern Munich vs Chelsea: UCL Clash Rekindles 2012 Final Drama, Official Line-up

3 Min Read

The 2025/26 UEFA Champions League continues with another blockbuster tie at the Allianz Arena, where Bayern Munich host Chelsea in a rematch of the famous 2011/12 final. That night in Munich still stings for Bayern fans, as Chelsea lifted the trophy after a 1-1 draw and a dramatic 4-3 penalty shootout win.

Bayern, however, come into this campaign in frightening form. Softfootball understands that Vincent Kompany’s side have won all five matches this season, scoring 11 unanswered goals at home. Their record in the competition is equally impressive: since 2003, no team has a higher win rate in the group or league phase. Even last year’s rare home defeat to Inter Milan in the quarter-finals has done little to dent their aura at the Allianz.

Chelsea, back in the Champions League after two years away, arrive unbeaten in the Premier League under Enzo Maresca. Yet their 2-2 draw with Brentford at the weekend showed familiar lapses. Still, the Blues have a strong international record in recent seasons, winning 12 of 13 matches across Europe and global competitions, including the Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

In the game’s preview, Softfootball predicted that it would be a very tight affair with no clear favourites in sight. These are the kinds of games where form doesn’t really matter heading into a high-profile clash like this.

Bayern remain without Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies, while Raphaël Guerreiro picked up a knock last weekend. Chelsea could be missing João Pedro, who started against Brentford despite carrying a fitness concern.

Bayern’s home form, Harry Kane’s scoring touch, and Luis Díaz’s sharp start point towards a tough night for Chelsea. While Cole Palmer’s creativity and Joao Pedro’s dynamism offer hope for the Blues, especially with the home advantage, the German champions look better equipped to handle the occasion.
