Arsenal have secured the signing of Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapié from Bayer Leverkusen on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy. Softfootball understands that the deal is worth €52 million in total, including a 10% sell-on clause.
Hincapié, 23, has agreed personal terms on a five-year contract should the move become permanent next summer. He will undergo his medical in London this weekend before joining Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Arsenal was very keen on his signing as the left-sided centre-back, who can also cover at full-back, has made 46 senior appearances for Ecuador and arrives to add depth and competition to Arsenal’s defence. His arrival clears the way for Jakub Kiwior to complete a switch to Porto on a loan-to-buy deal valued at €25m, rising to €27m.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal on his official X account, stating:
“Arsenal confirm Piero Hincapié deal done and sealed from Bayer Leverkusen. New centre-back for Arteta.”
Arsenal also released an announcement video on their official X account, describing Hincapié as the “final piece of the puzzle.”

The Ecuadorian had extended his contract with Leverkusen in December 2024 but expressed a strong desire to leave this summer. His move to London not only strengthens Arteta’s defensive options but also sets up Kiwior’s departure to Portugal.
If Hincapié passes his medical as expected, he will become Arsenal’s latest defensive reinforcement ahead of the new campaign.
