Manchester United forward, Bryan Mbeumo has called on Red Devils supporters to stay positive despite Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford. Although Gunners won, Ruben Amorim’s side were arguably the better team.
For the opening round of the Premier League, the Portuguese coach opted to start Mbeumo. Highly anticipated in his new home ground, the Cameroonian winger quickly won over the crowd. He made an immediate impact with his very first touch. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get the better of Gunners goalkeeper David Raya.

The Red Devils have endured attacking struggles in recent seasons, but the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Mbeumo have injected fresh energy into the frontline. The new look attack is already showing promise, and while United came up short against Arsenal, the performance offered encouraging signs that the summer signings are the right fit for Reuben Amorim’s side.
There was also a worrying repeat of United’s inability to convert their chances, with Amorim hoping that Benjamin Sesko will fix that gaping hole in his team. The Reds’ overall performance against a likely Premier League title contender offers some room for optimism, and Mbeumo shares the same sentiment.
Now, according to Fabrizio Romano via his Facebook page, Mbeumo has urged Manchester United supporters to remain positive and optimistic ahead of the next fixture, despite Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford. Romano wrote:
“Bryan Mbeumo: “Manchester United fans, STAY POSITIVE. Stay optimistic for next one”.
Much of the display was down to United’s improved pressing and organisation after a full pre-season under Amorim. Focus must now be on turning positive performances into results , a challenge the Reds have struggled with since their Portuguese head coach arrived in November 2024.
The hope will now be that a combination of Cunha and Mbeumo’s creativity will supply Sesko with plenty of chances to score and see United drastically improve on last season’s meagre tally of just 44 Premier League goals.
Softfootball understands that there are still plenty of issues which cannot be fixed before the summer transfer window closes on September 1. Bayindir’s blunder which handed the Gunners all three points put United’s goalkeeping issues into sharp focus.
Unfortunately for Amorim, United’s campaign might still be undermined by their goalkeeping situation, neither Andre Onana nor Altay Bayindir are good enough to match their ambitions.
Midfield will also continue to hold United back until they reinforce in that area. Manuel Ugarte’s cameo against Arsenal summed up his struggles in a Reds shirt, with the Uruguayan struggling to adapt to the pace of Sunday’s game.
Overall, the early signs from Mbeumo, Cunha and Sesko offer United fans genuine cause for optimism heading into the campaign. The pressure to deliver now intensifies, with upcoming fixtures against Fulham and Burnley presenting winnable opportunities in a season where the Red Devils are expected to mount a serious challenge for European qualification.
