Modric makes AC Milan debut in pre-season defeat against Chelsea

After 13 years at Real Madrid, Croatia legend Luka Modric made his AC Milan debut in the pre-season friendly against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Softfootball reports.

The iconic midfielder was a second half substitute, wearing the number 14 jersey, came onto the pitch to a large roar from both fans as he is loved by both set of fans.

Chelsea eventually won the encounter 4-1 against the 10-man AC Milan with two goals from Liam Delap, a goal from Joao Pedro and an own goal from Andrei Coubiș before Youssouf Fofana scored a consolation goal for the visitors.

Also monitoring the game was transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who revealed his official X handle, how Modric had always wanted to play for AC Milan.

He said:

“After 13 years at Real Madrid as legend, Luka Modrić for the first team in AC Milan shirt.

“The only club he wanted this summer, his childhood club.”

The game against AC Milan was the final game for Chelsea in pre-season as the FIFA Club World Cup champions switch focus to the premier league next Sunday as they host Crystal Palace at home.

Meanwhile, Genoa defender Koni De Winter has agreed personal terms with Serie A giants, AC Milan ahead of a transfer this summer.

The Belgium international is also attracting interest from AC Milan’s Series A rivals, Inter and the Premier League duo, Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur but the defender preferred a move to the Sansiro.

However, AC Milan and Genoa are yet to agree on a few and negotiations are still ongoing, according to Fabrizio Romano via his official X hamdle.

He said:

“Koni De Winter has agreed on personal terms with AC Milan, yes to the project.

“Negotiations between AC Milan and Genoa are ongoing with request around €25m total package.

“Genoa are open to finding a solution as De Winter wants Milan.”

Turin giants, Juventus could also benefit from this deal as they will receive 20 per cent of the future sale fee of the player, as part of their agreement when he left the club for €8m transfer fee in 2024.

AC Milan new coach Max Allegri is a huge fan of the experienced defender, having worked with him at Juventus.
