Villarreal closing in on deal to signs Inter Milan star, Tajon Buchanan

Villarreal have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Canadian winger, Tajon Buchanan from Inter Milan for €9 million as documents are being signed and scheduled for medicals, as per football insider Fabrizio Romano.

Buchanan joined Villarreal in February in a loan deal from Serie A side Inter Milan for a loan fee of €1 million with an option to buy. The permanent deal comes with a 20 per cent sell-on clause, meaning that Inter will receive 20 per cent of future earnings from a sale down the road.

According to Fabrizio Romano, he shared on X handle that Villarreal have agreed a €9 million deal with Inter to sign Tajon.

The tweet reads:

“Villarreal sign Tajon Buchanan from Inter on €9m deal plus 20% sell-on clause, documents being prepared.

“Medical over the weekend”.

The 26-year-old played 13 games with Villarreal in the back half of last season, netting one goal and adding two assists in 412 minutes of action.

Prior to his loan move, Buchanan made six Serie A appearances for Inter after recovering from a broken tibia in the early portion of the season.

Despite reported interest from Brentford in the English Premier League, Roma and Sassuolo in Serie A, and PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie, Softfootball learned Buchanan wanted to return to Villarreal to build on the second half of last season. Villarreal finished fifth in Spain and qualified for this season’s UEFA Champions League.

In his brief few months in Spain, Buchanan appeared to adapt quickly to La Liga. He started against Real Madrid in March, and though he would deal with ankle issues, Buchanan featured consistently on Villarreal’s right side.

He has also apparently developed a good working relationship with Villarreal head coach Marcelino. He is now set to stay in a top European league where he is already familiar with and will likely feature in this season’s UEFA Champions League.

With less than a year to go before the World Cup, it’s an opportunity that could be massively beneficial for Villarreal and Canada.
