Viktor Gyökeres is one of the most prolific strikers in the modern game and currently eyeing a move to Arsenal. Softfootball is one of the first news platforms that reported Gyökeres’ desire to only negotiate with the Gunners despite interest from several top clubs.

  • Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia)
  • Manchester United (England)

However, the deal has dragged on for a while without Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon clubs reaching agreement on the fee.

According to Transfer News Live via their X handle, there is total deadlock with the deal and that has left the player’s father in tears as he watching his son’s dream fade before his eyes.

“🚨 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: There is complete DEADLOCK in the negotiations between Arsenal and Sporting for Viktor Gyökeres.

“The situation is so complicated that Gyökeres’ father broke down in tears because talks aren’t moving forward.

“The Portuguese club are determined not to lower their demands.”

Sporting are determined to get close to €90 million for the player who has refused to resume for pre-season because he is desperate to return to England after representing Coventry in the Championship from where he went to Portugal.

It’s easy to see why top clubs want the Sweden international. Just last seasons, he scored 39 goals in 33 Primeira Liga matches last season, and had 54 in 52 games in all appearances.

Sporting CP shared a video on their official X handle, celebrating Viktor Gyökeres reaching 40 goals for the season.

Not every club can afford such fee for a player but if Arsenal fail to reach agreement for a deal. Here are three clubs that can offer Viktor Gyökeres an escape route.

Chelsea (England)

The London club are one of the biggest spenders so far in the transfer window. After acquiring the likes of Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Dario Essugo for a combined fee of £185. 8m.

The Blues can still spend healthily following the sales of Arrizabalaga Kepa, Noni Madueke and Djordje Petrovic this summer for a combined fee of £188m.

Despite winning the FIFA Club World Cup, Enzo Maresca cannot turn down the chance of adding a goal machine like Gyökeres to his squad as they will attempt to win the Premier League next season.

Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia)

The Saudi Arabia giants have been in the market for a marquee striker but have been so far unlucky. They put in a huge big for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen but he twice rejected the chance to play in Asia as he would prefer to continue in Europe.

Osimhen is on the verge of sealing a deal with Turkish champions, Galatasaray this summer, so he is out of Al-Hilal’s reach.

The Saudi club are currently working on a deal for Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak but the Magpies are unwilling to sell and have slapped a £150million fee on the player, hoping to keep him at the club.

This is where Viktor Gyökeres come in. They have the money and the big Swede is ready to leave Sporting Lisbon. They could be a great match.

Manchester United (England)

The 20-time Premier League champions are in need of a striker after Ramus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failed to perform upfront last campaign.

Viktor Gyökeres would suit the Red Devils perfectly as he has worked previously with Manchester United’s current Coach, Reuben Amorim at Sporting Lisbon. Infact, Amorim took him to Portugal and helped him become a great striker. It would be a powerful reunion.

Softfootball keeps following the Viktor Gyökeres situation with Arsenal. However, we would love to hear from you in the comment session. Where would you like Gyökeres to play next season?
