After chasing Bryan Mbeumo for seven weeks Manchester United finally got their player for a whooping £71m and this really feels like they struck gold.

Softfootball understands that Man United and Brentford are expected to soon confirm the deal officially after a fixed fee of £65m plus £6m add-ons was agreed for the Cameroon international.

According to Transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, Mbeumo will sign a 5-year-deal at Manchester United until June 2030 plus an option to extend until June 2031.

Mbeumo’s playing style

Born to a Cameron father and a French mother this 25-year-old combines physicality with slick skills to evade defenders. It is hard to shrug him off the ball because of his bulky nature and even harder to defend against because of his dribbling skills.

Mbeumo loves playing on the right wing so he can cut in and have a strike at goal. Something, he was so successful at last season, scoring 20 goals with seven assists.

Mbeumo is almost faultless as a winger because inasmuch as he attacks, he begins the press from the front and if need be, he is tracking back to help his defenders. His pace also helps in quick transitions which sets up attack from a defensive position.

Why Reuben Amorim likes him

Manchester United Coach, Reuben Amorim is a huge fan of players that can play in tight spaces. Players that can receive the ball under pressure and keep possession to start an attack. The Portuguese also admire versatile players and that is exactly what Mbeumo brings to the current Red Devils.

Mbeumo can even play as a wing-back if the need arises and be the best on the pitch. This is because he understands the game so well and he reads the game intelligently.

Link-up plays

Mbeumo is calm in possession and that helps him find teammates on the pitch easily. At Brentford, he was always threading killer passes to Ivan Toney and they worked well together before the England international made a surprise switch to Saudi Arabia.

A lot of people thought the goals would dry up as their main goalscorer had left but no one expected that Mbeumo would create even more magic with his solid new partnership with the Democratic Republic of Congo forward, Yoane Wissa. Interestingly, both joined Brentford about the same time in 2021 and have stayed loyal servants since then.

Mbeumo and Wissa scored 20 and 19 goals respectively for Brentford as they finished in 10th place and recorded the highest ever goals tally in their history last season.

Technique, Pace and Directness

Mbeumo is technically gifted. His first touch takes the ball away from defenders and he is away. He got pace that helps him get away from opposing players and his directness caused chaos in opponents 18-yard areas and most times lead to goals.

Softfootball predicts that Mbeumo would form a very good understanding with fellow new signing Matheus Cuhna in attack to help Manchester United goal more goals this season as they were one of the lowest scoring sides last season.

Mbeumo’s arrival will give a boost to players like Bruno Fernandez, Amad Diallo, Mason Mount and Joshua Zirkzee as they all would look to improve and help the Red Devils finish higher on the log next season.
