PSG set sights on six key roles in quiet summer window

Paris Saint-Germain is preparing for a relatively subdued summer transfer window, with only calculated additions expected as the club fine-tunes its squad under Luis Enrique. While major changes are unlikely, six positions have been identified for potential reinforcements ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

The club’s top priority is the arrival of a right-footed centre-back, and Illia Zabarnyi looks poised to fill that role. A €60 million deal is reportedly close, with the Ukrainian international snubbing offers from both Chelsea and Newcastle in favor of a move to the French capital.

Beyond central defence, PSG are actively seeking a backup right-back to support Achraf Hakimi. This signing is particularly vital as Hakimi will be absent for several weeks due to the Africa Cup of Nations, which runs from late December to mid-January 2026. No concrete target has been revealed yet, but the club considers it a crucial need.

In goal, the situation remains fluid. Gianluigi Donnarumma’s contract extension is still pending, casting uncertainty over his future. As a contingency, PSG are exploring young goalkeeping options. One name under serious consideration is Renato Marin, the 18-year-old Roma shot-stopper, who will become a free agent this summer.

Surprisingly, PSG is also looking to add a defensive midfielder. This move raises eyebrows given the current depth in that area, with Joao Neves, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha, and Senny Mayulu all expected to remain. However, the pursuit of a new number six could signal reduced minutes for French talents or a potential loan for Gabriel Moscardo.

On the attacking front, plans are still under discussion. Luis Enrique wants a versatile winger, someone like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia or Désiré Doué, capable of operating across the front three. Moreover, if players like Marco Asensio, Gonçalo Ramos, Randal Kolo Muani, and Kang-In Lee exit this summer, PSG may also recruit a traditional number 9 to fill the void.

Luis Campos is reportedly managing several transfer dossiers but will delay any formal moves until after the Club World Cup, ensuring alignment with Luis Enrique’s tactical needs and long-term vision.

Despite limited activity, PSG’s summer window is strategic—focused on depth, cover for key absences, and gradual squad evolution rather than an overhaul.
