Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has quashed rumors of a summer exit, firmly declaring that his future remains with the Premier League champions despite heavy speculation linking him to Saudi Arabia.
The 31-year-old, who is entering the final year of his contract at the Etihad, has been the subject of reports suggesting he was considering a move to the Saudi Pro League. Some sources even claimed his agent, former Brazilian international Julio Cesar, was exploring options on his behalf.
But speaking ahead of City’s Club World Cup clash with Juventus, Ederson set the record straight: “My future is here. My friends send me a lot of news but 99% is fake news. You guys need likes on social media, but there’s a lot of fake news about me.”
The Brazilian shot-stopper joined City from Benfica in 2017 for £35 million and has since become a cornerstone of Pep Guardiola’s side, winning 18 major trophies—including six Premier League titles and a Champions League. “My head is here,” he added. “I want to stay with City, give everything to win back the Premier League and fight for another Champions League.”
While Ederson’s commitment eases speculation about potential replacements—such as Diogo Costa, Gianluigi Donnarumma, or Marc-André ter Stegen—the situation with backup goalkeeper Stefan Ortega remains unresolved.
Like Ederson, Ortega is also in the final year of his contract but has made fewer appearances, starting just 12 league games last season. The 32-year-old German has been linked with a move back to the Bundesliga and has remained vague about his future: “It’s too early to say anything. I can’t comment on that yet.”
Guardiola had previously stated he expected both goalkeepers to remain at the club, but Ortega’s uncertain stance leaves the door open for a possible summer departure.
For now, though, City fans can breathe easy—Ederson is staying put as the club aims to reclaim the Premier League and push for more European glory.
