Arsenal Make Major Bid For Sporting Striker Viktor Gyokeres

Following an outstanding season with Sporting CP, where he scored 54 goals in 52 games and helped secure a league and cup double, Viktor Gyokeres has become a hot prospect in Europe. Several top clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich, have shown strong interest in the Sweden international.

In Lisbon, Arsenal directors met with Gyokeres’ agent to discuss a potential transfer. Reports from Portugal’s Correio da Manha reveal that Arsenal have proposed a €70 million (£58.7m) deal, falling short of the striker’s €100m (£84.7m) release clause but close enough for Sporting to consider. The offer includes a €12m (£10m) signing bonus and a five-year contract for Gyokeres worth £110,000 per week before bonuses.

After Sporting’s recent Portuguese Cup final victory over Benfica, Gyokeres remained non-committal about his future. He acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding summer transfers, stating that he preferred to focus on the remaining games and would not speculate on rumors. When questioned about Arsenal’s interest, he expressed the same cautious attitude, emphasizing his current focus on his team’s success.

Sporting appears willing to negotiate below the release clause figure, suggesting a deal could be finalized if terms meet both parties’ expectations. Meanwhile, Arsenal seem poised to make a significant investment in the striker, hoping to secure one of Europe’s most prolific forwards this summer.
