Atletico Madrid president warns Arsenal and Liverpool over Julian Alvarez

Atletico Madrid’s president Enrique Cerezo has made it clear that Julian Alvarez will remain with the club despite reported interest from Arsenal and Liverpool. The Argentine forward impressed in his first season at Atletico, scoring 19 goals after his £82m move from Manchester City.

Alvarez, 25, had a strong spell at Manchester City, netting 36 goals across two seasons but struggled to secure a consistent starting role under Pep Guardiola. Both Arsenal and Liverpool are looking to strengthen their attacking options this summer, with Alvarez named among their potential targets.

However, Cerezo, who has been Atletico’s president since 2003, firmly stated that Alvarez is committed to the Spanish club and ruled out a summer sale. The striker himself is said to be happy at Atletico, appreciating his positive relationship with manager Diego Simeone and his successful first year in La Liga.

Atletico recently finished third in La Liga and were eliminated by Real Madrid in the Champions League last-16, fueling Alvarez’s desire to add silverware next season. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta is actively pursuing top forwards including Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko, while Liverpool’s Arne Slot targets Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Guardiola previously explained City’s decision to sell Alvarez, revealing the player wanted a new challenge. Despite his impressive form, Alvarez pushed for the move, and both clubs agreed to the transfer last summer. Guardiola praised Alvarez’s attitude and expressed hope he finds success at Atletico.
