Fourteen players have arrived at the Super Falcons camp in Ikenne, Ogun State, as Nigeria begins preparations for the two-legged 2028 Olympic Games qualifying fixture against Comoros.

Information gathered by Softfootball’s correspondent Confidence, Chibueze on the ground indicates that heavy rainfall disrupted the team’s planned programme on Monday, October 5, forcing the scheduled training session to be cancelled.

Adegbuyi and Nkwocha Return to Flamingos

Meanwhile, 16-year-old forwards Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Favour Nkwocha have been released from the Super Falcons camp and have rejoined the Flamingos ahead of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

Adegbuyi, who was named the Most Valuable Player at the recently concluded WAFU-B U17 Girls Cup, and Nkwocha had initially been invited to the senior national team to gain experience ahead of the Olympic qualifiers.

The pair will now continue preparations with the Flamingos, who are scheduled to depart Nigeria on Wednesday for Morocco.

Super Falcons to Be Without Key Players

The Super Falcons will be without several established stars for the Olympic qualifying fixtures.

Asisat Oshoala has requested to be excused from the matches, while defender Ashleigh Plumptre remains unavailable due to a sprain and ligament injury.

The SL Benfica duo of Oluwatosin Demehin and Flourish Sabastine will also miss the games as they continue the process of securing their residence permits in Portugal.

Following Oshoala’s absence, former Falconets forward Blessing Okpe, who plays her club football in Belarus, has been called up as her replacement.

Several other players are still expected to join the squad, including Michelle Alozie, Christy Ucheibe, Jennifer Echegini, captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Gift Monday, alongside other foreign-based professionals.

Nigeria Face Comoros in Ikenne

Nigeria will face Comoros in a two-legged Olympic qualifying tie, with both matches scheduled to take place at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne.

The first leg is scheduled for October 9, while the return leg will be played on October 13.

The Super Falcons will be aiming to secure a strong aggregate result and progress in the race for a place at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
