Anthony Gordon has praised Trent Alexander-Arnold after the defender produced a superb assist for England during their 2-0 Nations League victory over Czechia.
Gordon, who recently completed his move from Newcastle United to Barcelona, opened the scoring after connecting with Alexander-Arnold’s pinpoint delivery, with the winger acknowledging the quality of the pass after the final whistle.
The Barcelona forward revealed that he immediately told Alexander-Arnold how impressive the assist was after finding the net.
Gordon also explained that he had repeatedly made the same attacking run, but it was Alexander-Arnold’s vision and execution that finally allowed England to exploit the space.
The performance continued Gordon’s involvement in England’s attack and highlighted the understanding between the two players. Alexander-Arnold, who now plays for Real Madrid, was making his first England start under Thomas Tuchel and made his attacking quality count with the decisive delivery.
Gordon has also made a significant career move in 2026, joining Barcelona from Newcastle United. The Catalan club officially confirmed that the England international signed a five-year contract running until 2031.
The 25-year-old winger spent three seasons at Newcastle after joining from Everton in January 2023, making 152 appearances and scoring 39 goals for the Magpies.
Since arriving at Barcelona, Gordon has already made an impact, providing two assists within four minutes of his competitive debut against Elche.
His latest England display further underlined his attacking threat, while his comments about Alexander-Arnold highlighted the importance of the Real Madrid defender’s creativity to the national team.
