Arsenal have completed the signing of Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United in a deal worth £75 million, with the Brazilian midfielder successfully completing his medical ahead of the official announcement.
The transfer comes less than 48 hours after Softfootball reported that Guimarães had been granted permission to travel after Arsenal and Newcastle reached a full agreement over the move.
The 28-year-old has agreed a four-year contract at the Emirates Stadium, becoming one of Arsenal’s marquee signings as Mikel Arteta strengthens his title-winning squad for another Premier League and UEFA Champions League challenge.
Arteta played a key role in the transfer, speaking directly with Guimarães on the day of his medical to reaffirm his importance to Arsenal’s long-term plans. The Spaniard has admired the midfielder for several years and views him as the ideal addition to bring leadership, intensity and technical quality to the heart of his midfield.
Tactically, Guimarães is expected to operate as Arsenal’s deep-lying playmaker, linking defence and attack while providing defensive protection and progressive passing. For Newcastle, the departure represents the loss of their captain and one of the club’s most influential players since arriving from Lyon in 2022.
